Ms. Amber Samuels

Principal Samuels’ leadership style focuses on creating and strengthening relationships among both staff and students. As an immigrant who is fluent in five languages, she also believes strongly in today’s students being prepared to collaborate, connect, and excel across the global stage.

Ms. Samuels most recently served as the Principal of Gray Middle School in Tacoma, Washington. Prior to that, she was an assistant principal for five years and middle school science, social studies, and language arts teacher in Chicago Public Schools for 18 years. She brings a wealth of knowledge as a school leader and a diverse background of experiences that have prepared her for this next chapter in her professional career.

Ms. Samuels holds two master's degrees from Concordia University, in Curriculum and Instruction as well as School Leadership. She is thrilled for the opportunity to return to Evanston where she has deep roots, fondly remembering Sundays at Mason Park with extended family. Outside of her time at school, she is an avid gardener, enjoying the connection to nature and embracing its lessons in patience and growth.

Ms. Alexis Whaley

Ms. Whaley's journey in education spans over a decade, beginning as an Early Childhood teacher in Oklahoma City and later transitioning to teaching middle school math and science. Her experience as an Instructional Coach and Interventionist in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood has been marked by her successful implementation of innovative programs that have significantly improved student engagement and academic outcomes. It was during her time in these roles that Ms. Whaley discovered her passion for developing student leadership and empowering young minds.

Ms. Whaley holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Oklahoma, where she focused on building the leadership capacity of students and staff. Her leadership style is characterized by collaboration, empathy, and a strong commitment to student-centered learning. She is dedicated to fostering a positive and supportive school culture that promotes high expectations and celebrates the unique strengths of each student.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Whaley enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with her friends and family. Her enthusiasm for education and unwavering dedication to student success make her a valuable addition to our school community.
